To help customers choose the style of glazing they would like in their new windows we have put together this simple to understand guide to the common choices available.
Samples of most of these can be viewed in our showroom, but it's always helpful to know the terminology!
Traditional Georgian Bars (in wooden window frames)
When you hear the term Georgian bars this is what you might think of, but this example shows a traditional single glazed window with Georgian bars. You will notice that each single pane of glass has been inset into a wooden frame. However this is quite different to Georgian bars on double glazed windows (see below)
Georgian Bars (Also known as Georgian Grilles)
This examples shows Georgian bars in a double glazed window. These bars sit between the two panes of glass, and can be coloured to match frames.
Astragal Bars
This example shows Astragal bars, which sit on the outside of the glass both externally and internally. You can match the frame colours even if you have a different colour inside to out.
Leaded Glass
Leaded glass is available with different coloured lead in various designs, from diamond, rectangular to a border design.
Glass Bevels, Colours and Motifs
Beveled glass is usually made by taking thick glass and creating an angled surface cut (bevel) around the entire edge. Bevels act as prisms in sunlight creating an interesting color diffraction which both highlights the glass work and provides a spectrum of colors which would ordinarily be absent in clear float glass. Beveled glass has can be clear or colored to create designs.
Decorative leaded glass comes in a range of classic bevels and coloured glass to light-catching textures, hand-crafted fused tiles and specialist finishes.
Decorative motifs (similar to stained glass) are available in a selection of designs to suit all tastes and styles.
Integral Magnetic Blinded Units
Blinds that are sealed between a double glazed glass unit. Operated by an easy to use, neat magnet slider to raise, tilt and lower the blinds inside the sealed unit. Available in eleven standard colour choices. They are perfect for use as window blinds, door blinds, patio door blinds, sliding door blinds, French door blinds and conservatory blinds without posing a safety risk, becoming unclean, or damaged.
